Just had a coil pack fail, 36K miles, car misfiring under load. Luckily two days before warranty runs out.
I thought VW had sorted this issue.
When I looked up the part number on ETKA it has been updated twice since 2010.

Like you say Mike, at least it's happened within "warranty" as by the sounds of it good customers relations mean diddly scwat nower days...

Mmmm. Noticed a couple of times between 70-80 a slight flutter from the engine wonder if its the same thing mines is 3 year old with 12k in for a service in a couple of weeks hopefully they find something.

Bad news and interesting.
Thankfully a warranty job.

I remember the same thing started to happen to the mark 5's as i had mine done, and VW issued an under the radar recall, well they changed them if you mentioned it to them

How did you get on Mike...?
-
I wonder if mine is failing? In mornings the coil light stays on longer than normal? 46k brought in dec 2010.

Seems sorted, thanks.
Reading a bit on other forums it seems once one goes the others follow shortly after.
The general consensus is to fit a set of Audi R8 ones as they have a metal stem which dissipates the heat better
They are also cheaper than the GTI ones

Thats your glow plug light; it will stay on longer due to the colder temperatures to help warm the engine up
Diesels do not have coil packs :nerd:

Just thought I would make a comment on this as it is about three months after it happened.
After I had the one coil pack fail I decided to replace all four with the new ones, they have gone up two revisions since my car was made. Just in case I got stuck somewhere.
Now the weird thing is that after I had replaced all four the car seems to be really responsive and feels much smoother to drive.
This may be just a placebo effect but the other thing is the exhausts don't soot up any more,.
I used to clean them every couple of weeks, as they had gone black, but now I have been driving for three weeks, the same journeys and they are still completely clean. If you run your finger on the inside of the pipe there is a slight trace but nothing more.
Maybe someone fitted a DPF

No soot. How much is the retrofit no soot option
