Title: Clutch pedal welded to floor!!!
Post by: The^Wilsy on 29 March 2013, 21:58
Hi Guys,

Whilst on a jolly to my local supermarket, my clutch pedal decided to drop to the floor and make itself hard to pull back up.
I was wondering if you guys had any ideas on what this may be and how to fix it.

My pride and joy is now sat in Tesco car park for the night.

I'm thinking master cylinder maybe.................

My clutch pedal went to the floor a while back. Bled it and it was ok..untill I booted it. So then I thought..master cylinder..tried that, no difference. So now it was starting to get soft again after driving like a granny for a couple of week..then it slipped a couple of times..bled it again..slipping like a nutter. Haha

Fitting a new clutch, flywheel and slave cylinder tomorrow so will tell you of my findings!!

Its a weird problem on mine though.

For you I would first check the bit of plastic from the master cylinder to the clutch pedal..probably snapped..usually do. Haha

Then you'll encounter a sod of a job ;) haha

I will check the plastic parts tomorrow morning.

Would these parts breaking make the pedal feel like it is stuck to the floor?
I can pull the pedal some way back up, but it takes a bit of strength and it just goes straight back down again pretty sharpish.

The little metal bracket on the pedal will have snapped causing the plastic parts to break into loads if pieces. You will need a new pedal the white clip and the black clip. Or uou can weld your original pedal back together if you can find the piece of metal that has snapped but you will still need to buy the plastic parts. I did this option because my vw garage didn't carry the pedal so would have left me carless for most of the week.

Like asbo said its a pig of a job. Especially to get the spring back in, I found you need the help of someone with little hands to get past the clutch assembly. It is doable though and there are DIY guides on the Internet.

Search on the forum, as there are threads covering this issue, with great links to 'how to's'!

Biggest tip... Cable ties!! Compress your spring like a mutha, and cable tie as tight as you can. Once the spring is in position, you can then cut them off

drop the spring back in from above, and have it compressed with cable ties (all will make sense when you go to do it lol) And dont push the clutch until you have spring in place and cut cable ties (learned the hard way here)

Cracking advice guys!

It turns out it was a fookin pedal fracture, which inturn bent the rod and made a general mess of all the parts from pedal to master cylinder.

Parts ordered and hopefuly car back on the road soon!

I have managed to rescue it from tescos car park, so i am a little happier.
