Recently we have been lucky where I live, as far as snow and rain is concerned.
But I've been told by many people that mk4 golfs and electrics don't go well together.
When we had rain not long back, when I would drive through puddles the car would perform pathetically. It would bog right down and splutter and generally sound like chitty chitty bang bang. It would struggle to go more than 15 - 20 mph and would only pick up after about 5 minutes of driving.
This cannot be normal, surely.
I can't go on driving around puddles or going through them at 2mph incase they splash upwards.
So could anybody tell me how I can possibly waterproof the parts that are affected and what's causing the problem.
I'm sure vw didn't produce these vehicles and mention in their adverts.... " only to be driven in the dry "

they not that bad, no car likes water inside of it
have you checked for under carriage trims missing broken where water getting splashed up? i assume the car drives 100& in the dry?
-
Yes it drives fine in the dry.
I used to own a 53 plate mondeo before this and it would drive through anything. These golfs are sh!t when it comes to water .
Are they all like this and everyone has to drive so slow a motability scooter overtakes you :embarrassed:

never had a problem like this with any of my golfs  an we get plenty of rain, does your car have he standard airbox in it
-
Have you got the standard air box or a cone filter?
-
if golfs were sh!t in wet us golf uk owners wouldnt have em :)

if golfs were sh!t in wet us scottish golf owners wouldnt have em :)

As stated above what kind of airbox is on it? Standard, cone filter or a cold air cone filter down behing the bumper? Other than that it will be a breach in the electrics. Coil packs maybe.
-
It's a bog standard boxed filter
-
defo worth checking coil pack wiring as that goes all over the car and mine was split from the coils all way to the ecu
-
What do I need to check for the coil pack
-
what engine is in it
