After a car park collision dented both my passenger doors and removed my rubstrips in places i have found some replacements on the cheap. Now im going to carry out the swap myself, but wanted to see who else has done it.
So for those that have done the swap what is the easiest way to remove the door on the mark 4? The two ways I can think of doing it would be to either remove the entire door with hinge attached or remove the door leaving the hinge attached to the car.
Secondly does anybody have a guide/ advice of things to look out for when changing them over?

I'd suggest you leave the hinges on the car. Access for the bolts is very restricted to do it the other way round
You'll have to unplug the doors and this is a faff!. The loom can either be detached from within the door (remove door card and dismantle) and left hanging ready for replacement door, or from within the car (plugs in somewhere behind the interior trim). Depends what you've got with the replacement doors? Are they bare or is all the gubbins included with the loom dangling?
-
I won't know whether they are complete for sure until I pick them up tomorrow. But I'm guessing I will have to swap a lot over from my car as long as they're in a better condition than mine it's going to be worth it.
Is it a pig to get it all lined up? I remember changing a bonnet before and that was a ball ache.
-
Easy to change mate. But its a b4stard line up. Took me half hour change over doors but hours get sit perfect. Esp as i was doing both front drivers door and rear door. If your just changing one should be easy line up.
You will need another pair hands so dont do it on your own
-
Oh and forgot as mr orange has said you will have to disconect the loom. If you open the door look between.hinges there is loom going through door held by rubber gromet. Pull gromet out have a fiddle by the loom you csn unplug from there.
If your.moving all immer bits into your new door then i advise you remove.door card and all.bits first before taking door off that way you can put all inner bits on the new door

It's both doors like you had to do nav. That's what I was thinking the lining up is going to be a pain. I'm thinking it might be a summer job. But I now have the doors, the front one is completly bare so I need to love everything over from my dented door. But the rear has the skin etc attached still but no window motor.
I might just swap it all over regardless as at least I know my parts work.
Do either of you guys know what tool bit you need for the hinge bolt? It looks like a tool between a triple hex and torx, but I'm sure I've seen a xzn tool states somewhere.
-
I used torx end on a rotchet mate. Not sure what mm it was now :lipsrsealed: dont need no special tool. Just get torx set.
-
I think it's a m10 triple square bit to remove the spline bolts.

Correct.
I have just changed my doors over this weekend. to remove door 6mm on the top hinge and a m10 triple for the bottom hinge.
Did it myself under an hour each door.

Thanks guys. Got the doors so I'll look at changing them over at some point soon.
Need to get the Depo's on first.
-
Where you got the depos if you dont mind me askin

I got them from fk but tbh I wouldn't recommend buying from them dude. I don't know if your saw my other thread last week but the brackets came broken and they weren't interested. So I'm fashioning up a bracket ATM.
It was a good price and the actual lights look really good. I went for the anni style projectors.
They have glass lenses too which was a welcomed surprise.
-
Im afte some too. Yh heard some bad stuff fk recently. I dont want the lights withe the stupid bmw angel eyes in em just want the projectors. Ebay seems be full the angel eyes ones
-
That's why I got them from fk as the halos arent for me either. But it's been a pain that I hadn't managed to get them installed yet.
It's been a while but when I was looking there were a similar set on eBay which were around the £150 mark. Mine were about £120 delivered.
