Title: GTI Remap
Post by: blueheaduk on 27 March 2013, 15:07
So the new GTI has approx 220bhp (without the pp)

Can any of you boffins estimate the sort of increase in bhp and torque a decent remap might spring form the car? I suspect it'll take a while for specialists to get round any new ECU software?

I drive a TDI just now so haven't got much knowledge of remaps in turbo petrols...

I suspect the likes of REVO etc will try and get around 20-30% increase, it'll need to be this otherwise people will go for the 'warranty safe' VW performance pack.

given the engines essentially an evolution of the existing unit you are going to be looking at figures around mk6 GTI levels, they may get a bit more but turbo size is always going to be the limiting factor

challenge will no doubt be unlocking the ecus

I can see remapping going down the road of piggyback ECUs. At the moment this is very expensive at around £1100 I believe.

The engine has been used in Audi TTs so the tuners will be aware of it and no doubt the big names will already be looking at the ECU.

Anyone got any info on this topic? I've ordered the PP and wonder if that will limit the remap potential so keen to hear if any of the big mappers have released any info?

The worry with the PP is the power handling of the diff which I read in one of the reports is limited to about 260bhp.

Now my last mk6 remapped to 260bhp and was an animal. Obviously if you use it on track 300bhp would be handy but 260 with a good spread of torque at around 300lb ft would be ample.

The diff would mean you could put that 260 bhp down where as my last mk6 couldn't. I have the lack of tread on my Contis to prove the fact!!!

I wonder if VW repositioning the ECU in the engine bay next to the battery, is good or bad news for tuners ? I mean if the ECU still has to be removed for programming on a bench, surely it's now easier now it's much more accessible ?
