I have a couple of rust spots on the mk3 that really need sorting. Now I am wondering if good quailty panels of a breaker is a beter option
basically I need to paint 2 doors, rear bumper and the tailgate which I have being quoted £350 to get done but I have found a same colour car with perfect panels and was thinking why not just swap them over
As the car is old the new paint wont be an exact match with the car, so any difference in the panels possibly won't stand out too much (or be any different to the new paint?)
Opinions please

Personally I'd try and get new panels because as you say you won't get a great match with spraying, at least If you find another MK3 that's about the same age they should have faded/aged about the same amount.

Depends on the cost difference between re-spray or replacement.

I have being quoted £350 for paint and the panels have being offered for £180 (complete, so if I strip the bits of my old's and ebay them I might get another £30+ back)

So if my maths are right that could leave you with about £200 difference to spend on something else

I need to do this with my passenger door.

Feck off. It's red.

panels are readily available from lots of cars being broken

yeah but there's lots which are far worse condition than mine.... and t.b.h there's not many LC5L mk3 5doors around!
oh and to update the thread.... the guy that was selling me the panels seems to of disappeared (I last heard from him same day he was bringing them to me!)
and I don't chase people when I'm buying!

As long as it is a close match then just replace the panels.

Doors are an absolute pain to change! Well at least to get the fit right again.
