Title: just bought mk5 gti laser blue i believe suspected head gasket
Post by: GJSEB79 on 26 March 2013, 20:05
as above guys just bought my first mk5 golf gti dsg in laser blue just got home and checked it all over again an there seems to be a goo on fill cap and the little chamber part below is this head gasket or is this going to be condensation as the people say they have only done like 3 mile short journeys in it has only done 50k surely cant be head gasket

What colour is the coolant? A nice pink (or blue!) Or a dirty colour? If it looks clean I'd assume condensation as the previous owner says they only did short trips...... Give it a motorway blast and when its cooled down re- check for the 'Mayo'.

How about the dipstick, any goo on that?
When was the last oil/filter change? If it was a good while ago then perhaps a good idea to get it done.
I'd still assume condensation first tho.
Give it a good run
Did you buy it privately or a dealer?

Could that be something to do with a faulty gnition coil pack?? Or carbon canister?? :undecided:

I had the same when I bought mine bud, took it on a decent drive down the motorway (like 30/40mins at 70mph) and it all cleared up.

And with regards to the tapping, these direct injection engines are super tappy to begin with, if you are genuinely worried pop down to your nearest vw garage, they won't charge just to listen to your engine :)

TFSI Head Gaskets are not known as a weak point - I would also suggest that this is just condensation. Mine suffers from this in cold weather.

If your engine is the AXX engine code, then it could be cam chain.

Notorious for being nosey. As said, the moisture in the oil will go with a decent run down the motorway.i would recommend an oil and filter change as by the sounds of it , it needs a fresh refill.

Pop down the dealer and get them to double check it. Oil change will also quieten up the engine a little too.
