Got my Mk V GTI last week.
6CD changer is intergrated into the armrest.
The only criticism of the car is the stereo - It's rubbish.
Even on normal bass setting, the doors vibrate.
There's not much mid range clarity either.
I'm missing my A4 Avant with Bose sound system.

Is there a dealer remedy, or do I need to replace the speakers?
If so, has anyone done it? What did you fit? How much did it cost? Etc

I had a test drive in the local garage demonstrator a few months ago, and it did strike me that the stereo was not as good as my current car mk 4 1.8T. The 6 CD in the armrest isn't a particularly neat solution either. Disappointing isn't it.

i quote like the cd in the armrest but do find with my preference when on radio, set the bass level lovely. Play cd way toooo much bass. Tune bass for CD and then put raio on and it sounds weedy and weak.

I agree with you guys the sound qualty as standard is pretty muddy, but have to say I'm far to busy enjoying the drive to worry about such trivial matters.
Try listening to the music the engine makes instead..........

I've found the sound system reasonable (does anyone know who makes it). It is certainly top heavy base-wise. As to for rattle and vibration in the doors at high volumes - i've not noticed any. One remedy maybe to set the fader towards the rear a bit (?)

I have the upgraded soundoption RCD 500 with integrated 6CD changer in the headunit and it actually sounds decent.
It is never gonna compete with a good installation of high end components but the overall sound (with "correct" settings) is fairly well balanced with some amount of basscontrol and clarity.
I'm almost considering leaving it without modifications.....my GTI is after all a company car and I'm not wanna "destroy" it completely

The system also seems to have some eq built in that reduces the bass level as the volume goes up.
The soundpack option imho is far better but still not as good as aftermarket.
