turbo is now sat in my porch awaiting some oxycetalene treatment tomorrow to try to free up the remaining bits of stud
The wife is not pleased
-
Said it before so I'll say it again....
Oops!!!
Thats you in the doghouse tonight then
-
when you said "dare I ask how it's going" the lack of reply must have spoken volumes...

For sure although you are't exactly great at replying to texts anyway :lipsrsealed:
-
What was the plan?
-
I was cold, hungry and hurting. My mate delivered two McDonalds meals to me which I devoured in no time. Turbo was out shortly afterwards and here I am lol
Dave - snapping two studs and having to remove the turbo wasn't on my to do list. Changing exhausts over was, I'm halfway there though
-
Ah right, is Dan buying the 3" one?
Maccers on a Sunday?! Tut tut!
-
Ouch, think it might take some grovelling to avoid sleeping on the sofa!
-
I'm ok to sleep in the bed apparently lol
Yes mate he's picked it up already. Kinda glad this happened in Ollies lock up rather than down WR though
-
Whys that mate? Would have been a minor issue for the WR team lol, we'd have had you sorted!
-
Yeah but it would have meant the Golf would have been stranded miles from home. At least I can just nip round the corner to do it
-
so exactly how much swearing was involved?

so exactly how much swearing was involved?
no doubt too much to be mentioned on a public forum
-
What were you trying to exactly? Change your exhaust setup? I'v sheered a few studs before, worst feeling ever! :lipsrsealed:
-
Did the conversation go like this:-
Male - going to do some work on the Golf
Girlfriend/Wife - how long will it take?
Male - don't know 2 hours ish
Girlfriend/Wife - Ok
An hour and a half later
Girlfriend/Wife - how long will you be
Male - well more than half an hour..............
Girlfriend/Wife going mental because she wanted to go shopping or something lol
Is it me or do all these turbo's do the same thing, I luckily only had one let go but that was still a PITA to get out
-
I told her about an hour in that the studs were snapped, she wasn't too happy. Especially as we're meant to be going away in the Golf on Thursday afternoon...
Anyways studs are out, everything is ordered and should be here tomorrow. I'll be pulling a half day on Weds to get it done and working through the night if needs be

Parts are in hand so a busy night ahead
-
how easy is it to get the studs out as i did similar on my turbo
-
If you've got some left poking out and you can get some heat on the exhaust housing (oxyacetalene is best) and a decent set of stillsons they should come out. Taking the turbo out makes it easier but it can be done in situ, just watch out for pipes etc. There's not a great deal of space so a steady hand is needed. I don't have any gas so it was easier to bring it to work
-
sweet will do it eventually when i chance
-
ive done the same attempting to fitting a decat pipe yesterday snapped two studs, got them out but the thread is damaged.
had to drop it in a garage today and cancel the trip to r-tech tomorrow
-
Ah bugger. They helicoiling it for you?
At least I'm not alone lol
-
Yeah will be helicoiling it
God knows what had been used to previously tighten them up and downpipe didn't seem like it had been aligned correctly before tightening - all holes was off to the left by 4-5mm.
Should of been an easy half hr job a decat pipe
-
Yep exactly what I said
-
I snapped one gettin mine off but there was enough to get a stud removal to on it
-
Turbo is in with oil and water lines connected, TIP is in place. Would have got further but some idiot left the manifold at home... Oh and I had to finish off fitting my short shift lol
Managed to mangle one of the threads on the studs too, fixed with my die kit though
-
Manifold
What short shift?
-
B&M copy
-
How come you got rid of the 3inch mate ?
-
B&M copy
Ah yes, remember you saying now :afro:
-
How come you got rid of the 3inch mate ?
For a quiet life lol
-
All I can say is, wow that was an experience lol. All finished, test drive complete and no signs of anything wrong. Only thing I need to do is adjust the linkage a bit as first and second are a bit tough to select but other than that we're good to go
More importantly, home life balance has now been restored
