can anyone tell me if the later mk2's and earlier mk2's igniition barrels etc are compatable with each other??
-
Think its just the switch that is different mate
-
there diffo mate the later ones (hazard switch on top of colum) is diffo to the earlier ones so its not a swap, you can change but it has to be a few other bits as well wiring, later mfa wiper stalk, ignition barrel and some other bits

there is an accessory feed from the ignition barrel but with out looking at a wiring diagram i cant tell you what colour!!! and seen as me manuals are in a garage and i cant move..........
lol
-
hmm well there is only like 4 wires so im sure i can find it ill use a multimeter tomorrow see if i cant find it oh i found the toad alarm by the way lol no clue how they got it in the box was huge about half a foot wide lol
-
if you mean the remote cable from the barrel i think it should be blue.
-
your stereo should have a permanent live wire and a live wire
wire these two together (as a permanent live) and the stereo will work with the ignition off..
-
aye they do......^^^^^
i like to know that when me cars 'off' me stereo is 'off' too!!! lol, otherwise the amount of times my mrs would ring up 'the car wont start' because of leaving the stereo in would be unreal!!

i had the problem of the coil burning out cause it had been on for an hour without the car starting and didnt like it one bit :S
-
I've heard that there is a feed on the late MK2s which is live when the key is in but not turned in the ignition, dunno how true it is or exactly what year it was fitted. I assume with CE2 but I didn't have much luck finding it :(
-
i didnt find any wires that would help me out.
-
Later mk2 from 89 have a 4 position ignition switch (off/accessory/ignition/starter). Earlier models only three positions (off/ignition/starter).
