Title: is this a k03s hybrid?
Post by: kingaz on 24 March 2013, 00:21
Recently brought a k03s. Ive noticed the blade pattern isnt like that of many k03s's. Is this some sort of hybrid?

Get some pictures up but I doubt it does there look like there's any welding done on the housing

looks like one of the chinese ko3 "hybrids" that have been floating around the last couple of years. The ones I've seen so far haven't made good power. Around 200bhp at most even at stage 2

Actually coming to think about it, there was a topic in the mk4 section only a few months ago about the same thing and I swear the turbine looked the same as what you have (less fins) can't remember the outcome il try search for it now

Looks like a toyo sport Chinese copy, have a look to see if you have 'TS' stamped anywhere on the casing or 'toyo' etched into the mating surface of the hotside where it bolts onto your downpipe.

Can you post a pic of the exhaust side, where the down pipe bolts on?

I've never seen a 10 bladed compressor wheel in a kkk turbo. The wastegate is a fair bit off center. The compressor housing and actuator look genuine, allthough the casting marks look rough. It's probably a Chinese copy or a k03 that's been repaired with knock off parts. Whatever it is it isn't a genuine k03s.

The only way to find out would be to fit it mate! I spent a lot of time looking at Borg Warner turbo bits before building my own hybrid, I've never seen that pattern of compressor wheel.
