Hello
Recently bought a mk4 GTi, it has 18" wheels on it, there does seem to be a drone from the back when driving...now I know it could be wheel bearing..obvious conclusion there...but I was thinking...do 18s go on without any mods..ie spacers and what not...it doesn't look to have any on there...could/would this cause the annoying noise...
I'm gonna put the wheels (16s) off my mk5 on this weekend see if makes a different..hope so :-)

its not the size of the wheel that determins if you need spacers or not but the offset. the lower it is the wider the wheel you will be able to fit without spacers

Oh ok thank you. How do I find the offset? Sorry for sounding thick :-/

Should be stamped inside the wheel as a ET number. If they were touching the struts i would think you would feel some kind of drag, and have inside tyre damage surely..

MK5 wheels wont fit so dont bother trying
Different stud pattern

That's a shame! I've seen monzas on mk4s..will these be reps or heavily modified?

The after markets don't have a ET number on...or i couldnt see it, altho it did have a plastic spacer on the front...i want standards anyway, so will make do for now until I find some nice 1s
Thanks for the advice
