Silly question i know but can you ?
I've got a mk4 golf and I'm wondering if I can wire up a sub and amp to the stock head unit ?

yes mate you can,  if you have the gamma unit as most golfs do, you buy a adapter off the net,  search VW gamma RCA adapter, about £15 and it gives you to RCA outs,    i know as ive done it

If you can find an amp with 'low level' inputs you can plug the wires that would usually go to your speakers into the amp. Most vibe amps and active subs have these.

can also get adapters that take a signal from the cables to your speekers and use these to give you your RCA outputs.
