So I'm trying to get my tailgate off so it can go away for surgery.
The haynes manual is helpfull, but dosent really mention the magical array of tubes, looms and wires that go off into the roof line and how far in they go.
Does anyone know is this a headlining out job? Or is there something obvious I'm missing?
Surely its not a difficult chore!

Its a mk3 golf estate btw. (1.9tdi)

I don't have any experience with the mk3 but I imagine it can't be too different to the mk4. I found that if you carefully release the headlining at the very back you can undo the bolts holding the tailgate to the roof and that was the easies way to take it off.
Hope this is slightly helpful.
