does the ciggy lighter socket have power constantly even where the car is locked? is there a way of making it so it only comes on when the car is either unlocked or the key is in the ignition, not necesseraliy turned on...ie like the cd player?

yeah it has power all the time, wether locked or unlocked.

Funny you should ask this as mine is constantly live but has never been an issue and i'd always assumed it was like this from the previous owner tweaking the dash wiring as the 2 mk3's i had before this one only worked with the ignition switched on.

Pretty much all VWs I've been in work all the time. My MK3 and MK4 does it, nans 6N Polo does. Mums Passat does and dads VW LT does and his old T4 did.

fair enuff, basically i want to add one of them ciggy lighter modules with like 4 extra sockets for phone charger, sat nav etc, and i dnt wanna hate to unplug or swtich it off each time i lock the car.
