Title: after 3 weeks owning my golf
Post by: Sonic B0000M on 20 March 2013, 21:07
I've had to take it back to the garage twice

1. Temp sensor.
2. Boost leak. I forget the code. But when they did this they changed the thermostat.

Now after 5 days ive had to top up the coolant 3 times. No smoke and no change in oil.  There is what seems to be coolant on right side of the engine below to the left if the air filter.

I've googled this and it looks like it could be the temperature housing?

Anyway I'm taking it back for the 3rd time tomorrow.

Please tell me it will end soon lol

mine leaked coolant from that side of engine, turned out to be a plastic bit that the temp sensor sits in had a thin crack along the seam, cost about 12 quid for part, see where the little green bit is in middle of picture

To be fair, you can't blame the car for the garage's quality of work. I assume you've had a problem with your temp gauge not being right.

The garage refitted the temp sensor, but did a crap job refitting it and probably shagged the oring, which is why it's leaking.

Then it still had the problem so they did the stat rather than actually diagnose the problem in the first place.

Buy a toolkit and get busy. They were two very easy 5min jobs.

I had a tiny leak in the temp sensor housing too probably about 5 months back, go to vw get the "flange" (still makes me laugh) and fit. Since then I have had no water leak issues.
