Why is there a difference on air filter induction kit prices? Say Halfords do some for £20-35 and then we have K&N, Pipercross etc charging £85-100? I know a few quid will be for the name but would I be better off putting a known brand name on my car? She is a rare BVR engine which is the last of the Audi TT engines. I cant put the original airbox on or in as the engine is in a MK3 Golf and space is as tight as it gets in there!!
Thanks in advance for any reasons why the known brands are better.
I must also say......I bought my car with a Halfords induction kit on or I would have personally put a K&N on due to the name.

I would not risk a cheap induction kit, poor quality filter plus they can lose you power.

Don't cheap induction filters have a habit of collapsing and getting sucked in to the turbo with obvious consequences?

Yep, they tend to be really weak / poor

30-100£ gets you a cheap induction kit

Sh~t.......On that note I am off to Ebay to order myself an induction kit! Going to be fun trying to find one for the BVR engine as so little were made, unless all 1.8 20v Turbo's are the same as in induction kit, so say a Golf MK4 GTI Turbo 150bhp would be the same size for mine?

Can you not just buy the cone (a decent one obviously) and some silicone hose and route your own?

Great idea bud. I have a bloody great big silicone hose which is holding the cr@p air filter on........Going to measure the hose now and then check out Ebay.

Possibly dyno testing and years of development.
My £200 carbon simota kit on my vr6 was a huge improvement over the green cotton kit that came with the car.

Reference cone filters, I found pipercross really loud on a 1.8t so try Jetex or K & N

relocate the battery and two std airboxes work well ( 1 needs modifying to fit ) 1 nearside 1 offside

i have a jetex/fr open cone on my 20vt and its fecking huge , that coupled with bit of pipe and a badger 5 tip means that my turbo can suck as much air as it wants, i was a huge improvement over the carbon box thing that was on previously
