Check the wiring to sensor
-
Need to replace with genuine VW crank sensor.Try fuel pump relay 167 and ecu relay 30,cus they can also cause cut outs.I know cus i've been there.
-
col-mk3,i take it you deleted the old fault codes with the VagCom before you re-scanned?.
-
as said above, replacing the crank sensor dosen't always work as the wiring harness dry's out/splits and then arc's. this gives the same faults as a dicky crank sensor
replace them wires first and see if it fixes it

thank's il get the mechnic check all this was told crank sensor's aint any different to the genuine one's by someone who work's at vw

best call vw and be sitting down...
Most people make there own (it's only a few wires into a connector although they do need to be heat shrinked) or contact your local auto electrician as they should knock one up for only a few ££ (well cheaper than vw)

Also, don't buy cheap crank sensors, they're sh!t! I bought a cheapo from ECP and it lasted all of 3 days....Get an OE quality one from a decent manufacturer or VW.

This ^^^
With electrical components I try and find out who manufactures the part for VW, once you've found the make/brand have a scout for a suitable component. I've just come back into the VW fold from BMW's and found there that crank sensors were a favourite to fail, and anything other than and O.E part was usually a waste of money. In the case of sensors I believe its a case of buy cheap, you'll end up buying twice.
