i need to get a panel filter for my modded airbox, just trying to work out which one to get out of K+N, pipercross or this cheap one http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FK-sports-air-filter-for-VW-Golf-Mk3-Vento-Mk-3-/310401858680?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&fits=Model%3AGolf%7CPlat_Gen%3AMK+III&hash=item4845647c78
i am doubting there will be a difference in performance between them, I just want the loudest one i can get! i love the sound of the cone so want to keep as much of this as i can when going back to airbox.. any other suggestions welcome
cheers

How have you modded the airbox, i chopped the inner wing side off mine and it's quite loud with a standard panel.
-
Honestly the standard paper element will be louder than a pipercross filter.
No one has got a gain from a aftermarket filter. I got one because you can wash it and use it for years without replacing. Works out cheaper in the long run

i'm not expecting to get gains from aftermarket over standard, just noise and longevity. i know the pipercross are designed to be quieter, what about k+n?

If I was to buy again I would go K&N

Mines a 8v so its different to that but where you have cut out the corner that faces the back of the headlamp i cut out the side that buts up against the inner wing.

Pipercross would be my choice.

I'd go for a K&N, it's cotton, which flows a bit better than foam.
I have a pipercross on mine though and I can't complain, gets washed out every year and the amount on crap that comes off it is pretty pleasing to see.

thanks for the suggestions guys, think ill go with k&n. gotta find a bigger trumpet too.

I got a K+N on my 8v bud, with a standard exhaust and she sounds like she has a full stainless !
Bit too loud for me, but it was a freebie from my old cabby !
