Title: 8v blowing raspberries at me.
Post by: MickP mk3 on 14 March 2013, 16:26
My 8v GTI sounds like its blowing raspberries at me. Its coming from right handside of the engine bay (when in sat in the car). The noise is only there on acceleration and gets louder the more I accelerate, but disappears when I let off. Is this a normal noise or does it sound like a leak in the induction system? Iv checked the air box lid and that seams sealed and I can't feel the exhaust manifold blowing, so i dont know? The cars been doing it since I bought it but its starting to get on my pip.

check the airbox is joining properly - I had this problem, and it wasn't seating at the back (inside the wing) in the clips correctly - and hence the noise.

Check the rubber bellow around the steering rack u/j,  when these are perished they funnel exhaust noise through into the cabin.

Iv had a good root round in the engine bay and the only thing I can find is that the rubber on the steering rack is perished. It looks a bugger to get at, so im going to do a temp botch job for now and see if the noise disappears. I will update tomorrow.
