GTI's had quad setup as standard, as they were the highest spec, GL's and Drivers and some other higher spec cars also had them... low spec models CL's etc had the poverty spec setup, but many were converted to the "GTI" spec by simply swapping the grill, for ones with the extra lamps, and plugging into the existing loom...

So the GTIs with twins have been downgraded by someone at some point?

Yes, some people preferred a cleaner look and swapped over to the poverty setup, but it seems that the OE look is where its at these days...

GTI's Only Had the Red Stripe Version.

Plain Quad all in Black. Interesting Point here is that these models came from the factory with the highly sought after "Blue Label Hella Spot Lights"

Quad GTI with red stripe is the dog's danglies IMO...

Early cars had more slats in the grille.
A big mass debate if the blue labels on the inner lights were standard. I like them.
All about the quad red tbh

The one I've always wondered about was the Silver stripe 7 Slat Grille & Bumpers - what model did that come off ?

the chrome grill surround came on the early type 1984 to 1987 gl's with chrome trim bumpers from 1988 they dropped the chrome grill but retained the chrome trim bumpers, both came with the chrome window trims, in 1989 when the gl's had the big bumpers the chrome window trim was dropped, god we broke alot of golfs in the past

Blue "Hella" decals were not fitted to GTI's inner lamps, unlike the lesser models. A GTI that has them, has the wrong lamps fitted, or the decals have been added at a post production date, the "desirable" decals are still supplied by Hella for a nominal fee! :lipsrsealed:
New lamps supplied by the dealer back in the day, had them fitted out the box, you simply peeled them off, for a GTI fitment.

My question would be;
Did the car leave the factory with Green Wheels??? :afro:

My car came from the factory with the wheel centres painted gold, and the rim painted silver, you'd be surprised at how many people have told me this is non OE!
They may also make a return to gold and silver this year, only the rim will be polished instead of painted

Gold centers were common in the 80's. Quite a few Mercedes had them.
I painted the centers of a set of Cortina wheels gold, that were on my Daihatsu Charade in 1987, so must have got the idea from somewhere. Get me. Fitting wheels from another manufacture on a car and painting them a lairy colour. All this before wheels whores had been thought of.
Back on topic, I have seen the blue Hella sticker on ebay before now for a few pence. From what I remember, the blue stickers were on aftermarket lights and spot light grille kits. They were never original on factory spot lights, but may have been on dealer fitted grille kits, but should never be seen on a GTI.

Not bad replica's Thom. At first I didn't notice but then I saw the stuck on BBS sticker over the lenzo badge.
