Title: Problems after new cambelt/Water pump
Post by: Perryd84 on 12 March 2013, 08:32
Just had new cambelt and water pump fitted but now I'm having some wired issues  :undecided:

1: The car doesn't start on first try unless I give it a bit of gas then it picks up?!

2: While driving when I come to a stop the car idles erratically dropping then going up, it does this a few times before settling?!

Probably nothing to do with the new belt and pump but thought I would mention it just in case.

Any help would be great as it's a massive pain when I forget to put my foot down to start it and also well embarrassing in a packed petrol station when the car don't start and gives off a massive starter motor scream just to draw even more attention  :embarrassed:

Oh one more thing on VAGCOM it gives back "engine coolant sensor" Intermittent nothing else?!

get some codes up matey and have the starter replaced, 140£ at a VAG specialist or 100£ yourself, also check your battery down halfords with their free checks and how long ago was the alternator done?

The idling issue is since the cam belt change.

Sounds serious this can' be the problem can it? The car drives perfect apart from the idling problem and the start up issue.

Put the car on VAGCOM last night and recorded the idling problem. Recorded the throttle valve as well I'm thinking is it a dirty throttle body? Can anyone diagnose faults from logs as I'm pretty basic when it comes to this?

No management light yet so don't think it's a tooth out. Any other ideas it's driving me mad!!!

I had an issue with engine splutter a year back. Intermittent light. Cleared the code and didn't come back
