Title: kenwood dnx521dab fitted/review ?
Post by: mwad gti on 11 March 2013, 21:01
Hi

Has anyone had this unit fitted in their VW ?  I am curious as to how good it is. I really like the idea that this unit is suited for VW group cars ie the climate displays etc
i currently have an RCD310 DAB heatunit and also Dynaudio.

Do you think that the Kenwood unit would give better sound than the current head unit ?

I think the rns510 is a much better unit than the Kenwood and easier to use. I used the Kenwood in the showroom while I was waiting for my car to be serviced and found the UI terrible.

I'm still considering this heatunit.  Local dealers will do it all in for £1k rather that the RRP of £1049.  Not a huge difference admittedly but all the dealers I have tried have stated that their is genuinely little mark up.  Must admit, I am happy with £1k

My problem is, I just found out that you can no longer use the Ipod lead in the arm rest

I had one fitted recently and i like it, i have never had an RNS so i couldn't compare ( as i only recently got my first Golf). I can play other media- movies etc from my ipod as standard, streaming audio not an issue for me nor is the ipod cable in the glovebox as it isn't a big stretch if you need to use it. When i looked at the RNS when you start adding BT,MDI etc it was a comparable cost. I paid £800 for my unit from a dealer (within last month) cam with VW splash and warranty and i got a fellow to fit it for me (from another forum) at a very good rate- mic/and BT as well properly placed behind panels - a great improvement on my rcd300 but as i previuosly said couldn't comment on better or worse than RNS-  i would imagine at the end of the day it is just different.

OP if you want the details on where i bought it from let me know

Cheers for the reply.  £800 is a brilliant price
