I have just been to Europarts to buy some bits for my 1990 valver. I bought rear springs and have just been checking on Europarts web site and they list the same part number for 8valve and 16valve GTi's. If the valver is meant to sit lower then I would have thought that it would have shorter springs.
Anyone any ideas ?
Cheers

lowering springs are normally judged by comparison to the standard golf, not the gti's. the only difference would be when you put different poundage springs on due to a heavy engine. 16 valves were 10mm lower than 8 valves as standard.

Thanks Joe - If you are saying that the ride height is lower in the valver due to the extra weight and that the springs are the same then I can accept that, but I was a bit surprised.

i'm not sure if they are the same, but most lowering springs are measured from standard golfs, not gti's so in theory they should lower an 8v as low as a 16v. not 100% sure though.
just realised are you buying lowering springs or standard height replacements? in which case yeah the 16v ones should be lower than the 8v by 10mm

They are standard. I think I will check GSF web site and see if they list the same part for both cars.

ahh i see, yeah i'd say they should be a different part number.

I checked GSF and they list a different part number so I am taking them back to Europarts. Better finding out now than after they were fitted.
Thanks Joe.
