hi all have read the garage tips and still no wiser after  more help.Have a 97 16v parked it up all fine next morning wont start took one of the plugs out held against head (engine not mine) no spark took king lead off dizzy held against head no spark so have changed the coil pack still no spark i believe you can test the input to the unit with a test light which wire? and when should it get power ie when cranking or all the time? and what  if no power to it? any help appreciated as dont know what to do next! big thank you

hi all this will probably get deleted but i have searched the common probs but still no wiser!! Have a 97 16 v and went to start it no go, no sark at plug no spark from coil  pack king lead when i earthed it on the head so changed coil pack for a new one still wont start.Kneed to know how to test for power going to coil pack with test light ie what wire on coil pack pug and when should this be getting power? then what next if power there or not.Changed to crankshaft sensor about 18 months ago could this be the culprit do they just go like that and would this stop coil from firing please help!!!

He recently has starting issue with his 16v, he went through every little detail and finally got it started.

Going to scan for codes tomorrow will tps sensor show if car wont start or does it have to have logged the fault while running? Will post back after scan

thanks for everybodys help scan came back today with crank sensor, changed it and hey presto she lives again! oh and you gotta love VW for the location of it well it wouldnt be any fun if it was easy!thanks again people untl the next time.................................!
