Hi guys,
my belt that goes upto the alternator snapped on me this weekend. So i need to put a new one on. But i cant do that until i take off the belt thats at the bottom as the alternator belt sits behind it. Whats that one called? i was thinking to replace that at the same time.
Cheers

If it has PAS then it's that belt. I can't remember if the water pump is run off a separate belt.

They'er all called auxillary belts these days. They were, and are still some times refered to as fan belts. You need to look at the size that is printed onto the the belt. It will be something like 10 x 735 or 11 x 935. The first number being the width and the second the total length.....Good luck

The water pump is run off the alternator belt thats snapped. I havent got the number on the belt tho i was going to just go to vw today to order it. Hopefully they will give me the correct one!

Just checked mine, which is an 8v PB engine. The alternator belt is 11.2 x 866 and the water pump/power steering belt is
10 x 735

Finally got it fixed but had an issue finding the correct belt size. So the size i needed was 9.5x630mm but closest i could get was 9.5x625mm so 5mm smaller but was plenty of play!
All fixed and back on the road :)
