Title: How do I fit lower vents?
Post by: Godzilla on 10 March 2013, 23:26
I put my head down in shame on this one!

I cant work out how to get the lower vents in the front bumper in!  My car came without them so I bought a pair off Ebay. I have tried pushing them in but so such luck......And I did make sure they were the correct way round and made sure I had the correct one for the side!!

I am hoping any replies to this will be of a fairly complex procedure or I am going to feel like such a tw@t if it is a 10 second job

They fit from behind the bumper and push in, very very straightforward. Remember and plug your ambient temp sensor into the drivers side one

another thing I advise is to heat them (bowl of boiling/hot water usually works) as they are known the shatter/crack in this weather

They don't fit

I got them off Ebay from a guy who was breaking a MK3 GTI.  Cant understand why they wont fit......I have tried every single way going. Wonder if I am missing something here or if the ones he sent could have been off a non-GTI which maybe different?

I have indeed mate!

But!!  She is my project and will get her to the standards of my old VR6 in my av' pic.  Almost there, serious love and attention is going in to her!  Engine is great though, pulls very well, about the same performance as a UK spec Scoob or a standard Saph' Cosworth yet half the running costs

Ok.....Kind of given up on the vents so called VW Parts to check if maybe they had changed over the years. The part number I gave has come back as Vento vents which are different......So that is why I could not fit them

Just messaged the Ebayer who sold them to me to tell him this as he said they were for a Golf MK3.

It's quite possible his car had a bento bumper without his knowledge

Just had a reply saying they were from a Vento and that he is really sorry and thought they would fit a Golf GTI.

That is cool in my eyes as he has said sorry......£12 they cost me so not exactly a bank breaker!

Unfortunately not mate.....He wont refund me

He said they are in high demand so easy to sell on. Will put on Ebay and see how it goes.

If you want some GTi lower vents speak to bored_welsh_lad on the thread headed mk3 lower vents (at the top at the moment)
Dicky gets Hofelle ABS plastic vents posted to your door for £25 he has 2x pairs left at the moment,
Really good quality and cheap !
