Hi guys, i have some news to report with! i am now the proud owner of a mk4 1.8T AUM, 5dr black, 1 previous owner, loads of histroy and receipts, genuine 63k miles, all m.o.ts to back it up with. Was bought for my 18th, only bad thing is its £2800 to insure with a years no claims. It has a few issues that need sorting, like 1 tyre, temp gauge stopped working, and needs a rear door pin, his kid pulled it out :D apart from that its mint to be honest.

I was going to say! Was expecting a 400bhp AWD monster
That said for an 18th birthday present that's not bad at all! Hope the insurance know about the wheels and the lights
As for your problems, door pin wither screws on or pushes down and temp gauge is likely to be the thermostat.
-
your paying near 3 times the cars value on insurance

That insurance tho.
-
The insurance was just an estimated price from comparison websites, and those lights are going! its absolutely mint compared to my 1.4 :)
-
Assed nearly 3k on insurance that's mental a couple more years of the 1.4 and saving and u would have a fair bit of cash!!! But then again u have a 1.8t get it mapped and have fun
-
yeah thats exactly what my dad said to do :) he mentioned have the wheels off it, but my gti ones on that, then sell that then have a few more years in the 1.4. But to be honest my insurance is due in June, and its £1900 for my 1.4 mk4, and i would rather pay just over £900 more and have a 1.8T :P and remap it ehe atleast then i have something to stay with and modify in time

as said admiral or elephant, try adrian flux and brentacre insurance for the mod heads out there, depends where you live as well, my brother was messing about with a qoute for an R32 and got a qoute for 1300£ fully comp, reason being is the area we live is pretty much full of old people who dont drive and we have private parking in a quiet out of the way corner of the world with only one entrance to the houses on our road, pretty bad ass cause everyones living room covers some aspect of the street as well so good security there and no crime rates in the last 2 years to speak of  apart from the obvious swearing every other day when im out tending to my car and getting cut or jamming my finger in places it shouldnt go

Not particularly. Mine's a T reg with a genukne 49k on it and I got told I could expect about £950 if it's in completely mint condition. I think it'd go for a bit more than that, but yeah the point still stands. That insurance quote comes to far far more than the value of the car.
But if the OP can afford it, and he loves the car, then get on with it  When you're old like me it'll be < £500 a year
-
aha true :) financially it isnt too much hastel :) repairs are cheap enough :D its a win win :P the cambelt was changed 8000 mile ago.
