Title: Aerocoat refurbished - help please [Pics]
Post by: Jin_C on 09 March 2013, 09:36
Hi all,

I've just got my BBS RC Anniversaries back from Aerocoat. I'm not sure what to think of the quality. The wheels have lots of 'bits' underneath the surface. I have never had alloys refurbished before so I am not sure if my expectations are too high. The wheels were brand new fresh from the VW boxes. So I can guarantee that there was no structural issues only the milky lacquer issue (Even when they were brand new boxed!)

I have added pictures, am I right in thinking that the wheels should now be completely flat without any imperfections at all? Would you try to get them re-done?

p.s. the black marks are artefacts from my phone due to HDR shots not on the alloys.

That looks quite poor IMO

What state were they in when you sent them off?

They were direct from the VW boxes. So only the milky lacquer issue. No road use at all.

Having to cancel my tyre install now. Wheels were already a week late, now gotta wait another week while they pick up and re-do them.

I just checked the other 2 unopened boxes to confirm which ones had to be sent back and one had a massive scratch on the edge of the rim! That's worse condition than I sent it in.

First thing I'd be doing to asking to speak to the manager. Ask him what he is going to do for you as "just picking them up and re-doing them" is not good enough. I would expect at the very least turbo service getting them redone and some of the money back that you paid to have them done as you say they where a week behind doing them? Looks like a right rush job was done to me and they look like they have not been powder coated but rather a water based paint job.

If they won't do that id be asking for a refund and take them elsewhere mate and explain to the manager that your not trying to be awkward but you have invested a lot of time and money into these wheels and lets face it there not your av £80 wheels there limited edition anniversary wheels and you don't expect anything less than factory finish.

Explain your a member of a highly respected club and that his business came highly recommended via that club and it would be a shame to go back and tell the club that they where lieing... Good luck pal and keep us updated. :)

Thanks guys. You have confirmed what I was thinking.

Mike at Aerocoat was apologetic and helpful. He has arranged for them to be picked up asap and assured me there will be 'turbo' service Nino mentioned. He even mentioned reimbursement without me saying anything.

I am hoping the second time round I do get the usual quality that other members have spoken about. Just annoying that I organised this weekend to sort out the wheels, tyres and spacers, then alloys are screwed and also the locking nuts and spacer nuts that were delivered by a different company were incorrect.

I got the wheels back a couple of weeks ago, this time with the centre caps as well.

-Huge area of peeling/bubbling on the back of one of the wheels

-and two centre caps have big marks from where they were mounted during the refurb (All have mounting marks but the other 2 are hidden when you put the VW caps back on)

-Oh and they came back a lighter colour than first time round?!

REALLY ANNOYING!

I can't be bothered spending more time packaging and waiting around for pick up and re-delivery.
Here are the wheels polished up, much better quality now (apart from issues above)

However again! you still have not got what you paid for, if that was me id be back on the phone ask to speak to mike, ask him for his email address and send him these pctures and ask him this question. "Mike look at the pictures, if you just paid XXX and you had to send them back and they come back like this what would you expect?"

He will more than likely say, i'll pick them up and redo them, say NO thats not good enough. you do not want to wait any longer you do not want to wait for them to be picked up, redone and have a 50/50 chance of them being wrong again.

Tell him you are willing to keep the wheels as are however you do expect them to offer a small refund considdering you have not received the "professional" finsih they promissed you. Stay clarm and explain that yo are happy that they first accknowedged there mistake and you where very happy with there "turbo" service but you feel there "turbo" service was maybe rushed to quickly and small mistakes have been made yet again. Explain that its not your problem whatever sutuation that has caused this from there end as you paid them for a service you quiet frankly have not recived.

P.S hate you a littlebit for having them wheels  :nerd:

When you say:

Are you sticking these on a different golf or car? What do you mean spacer nuts? I am planning to get this done next month, I thought it would just be a case of taking the wheels off, getting the tyres taken off then refurbished then tyres back on and straight on the car? Is this not the case?

He'll be putting on spacers to give a wider stance so longer wheel nuts will be needed

Thanks guys.

I'm done with their service now, I can't be bothered getting it 'fixed'. I spoke to them and got a £60 reimbursement. Mike there even tried blaming it on a new guys. I don't see how having a new guy should affect your quality assurance process?!

Hopefully I should get them on this weekend.

recci, why do you say pointless?

Hey Nino, the re-done finish is good on the fronts of all the alloys so I would say thats a good result. However the service is pants so wouldn't say an overall good result.

I put up picks on the page before this one of the polished results, did you want more DETAILS haha?! I will hopefully getting some pics up after fitting them tomorrow.

named and shamed. I would have wanted more than 60 back for that mess.
