Yep    Limited design differentials and a decent power output, go figure? This coming from the guy that is gagging for the R to be released

It is becoming an increasingly hard choice if you don't live at 4000+ rpm.

You know you'd all miss the thin red stripe and just 1 month after you've bought the diesel, you WILL say to yourself, it's not a GTI.

Thats the best part of the GTI imo, it's as happy pootling round the supermarket car park as it is getting it's head kicked in round the twisty lanes! I just don't do the miles to justify buying a diesel but it makes great sense to those who do lots of miles and don't want the usual mile munching mondeo.

You'd need to drive one.  It is not quite as fast but it pulls so well. I've had a GTi, Jags, Mercs and Porsches  and I would not swap back. Perhaps I'm getting old but I changed when Petrol prices got silly...

It's a real driver car and a great place to be...

And now the GTD will be sold in the US - so there be mods galore...

When I bought my MK5 and the MK6 I drove the diesel and GTI  back to back.

The GTi just seems lighter and  livlier, sounds so much better and was a lot more exciting to drive.

Unless I suddenly start doing over 20000 miles a year I cant see me ever having to compromise and buy the GTD.

GTD was first around with the mk2. It was revived for the MK6, mainly for company car drivers who aren't allowed petrol engines and wanted to sound cool.

Personally, I would rather drive a Kia than a diseasal but then I'm old fashioned that way.

Old picture revived...

I hate automatics too. As for diseasal automatics well.......

Did you notice the last sentence

We’ve negotiated savings of 10% off the RRP on every Mk7 Golf. Orders are placed directly with official VW dealers and include free delivery within England and Wales.

I noticed that too   ...  no chance for 10% in the first year IMHO

I use to think like the GTD owners and have defended tdis a lot.
My daily is a Leon tdi and its quick enough For Me and I really thought about selling the GTI and just keeping the Leon.
Then I used the GTI for a week to commute. One of the roads is a twisty section of about 4 miles. Having the GTI buzzing between 3000 and 6000 flowing from corner to corner showed me what the TDI lacks.

Once the prices are actually released you'll probably find the brokers will come close to 10%
orangewheels.co.uk are already giving around 10% off on the other golf trims.

True but that is only on the bread and butter cars that we have allocation for 10 or so a month of. GTI allocation is likely to be one or two a month.......we have been approached by carfile and another website because they are looking for dealers who have allocation. We have used next months already so won't look down that route until things quieten down rapidly. I was speaking to the bloke who runs carfile and they don't have a dealer yet putting there balls on the line for any GTI or GTD.

Been meaning to post in this thread for days now, but I've been away from home... Anyway, I attended the Geneva Motorshow last Monday (11th) and spent more time than was reasonable looking at the GTI. I've got to say that, somewhat predictably, it looks much better in the flesh than it does in many of the photos. The front end in particular looks much better when you can see it in proportion with the rest of the car. I was more taken with the white than the red, though I only saw the latter on a 5 door GTD. Still not sure about the 18" Austin Swastika's, much preferred the appearance of the 19" Santiago's.

The one thing that surprised me the most is how inoffensive the ACC Cyclops eye looked on the white 3 door GTI. Now, I was very much against the idea of having it and still don't like the appearance of it on the non-GTI Golf's, but I'm actually quite tempted by it now.

I took some photos on my phone, but they're nothing special and the quality is very much of the typical camera phone standard... :embarrassed:

;D  I'm hoping for a glimpse of the white 5 door GTI that was there!

I'm afraid it is only a glimpse from me, as my attention was mainly focused on the 3 door, as such I only have one photo of that one:

5 door GTD:

3 Door GTI:

Ten or so more pictures >HERE (http://s49.photobucket.com/user/the_sniper89/library/Geneva2013)< of the 3 Door GTI, plus slightly larger/un-cropped version of the pictures above. I think the angle from which the photos above were taken gives the most accurate impression of how the car appears in person. The head on views in the linked gallery and on the various car magazine sites make the car look a bit disproportionately wide and somewhat unattractive. This isn't the case when you see it for real and can appreciate the proportions of the thing.

Apologies again for the low picture quality!

No problem! Yeah I was quite surprised by how large it looked from the outside, that's why I took the picture. It's not really too noticeable on the inside though.
