Title: Low oil pressure?
Post by: Benny.banks on 06 March 2013, 15:39
I just installed an aftermarket oil pressure gauge on my friends Audi a3 1.8t quattro and the hot ideal reading seems a bit low.
15-20psi hot idle
70psi cold start

He's using 5w40 oil fully synth oil.

Well he's got a receipt from feb 2012 saying oil pump, sump, pick up all work completed. so ruled the pick up off.

hope it isnt that tbh.

but would you say its low?

The figures seem low, where have taken the feed for the gauge from?

the oil filter housing, where the current low pressure switch is.

Might be worth trying another gauge as a 1st step (could be faulty)

Think it might be the gauge tbh as he's just been out on a spirited run and its hitting 100psi even when idling.
