Title: Windows 8 keeps freezing FFS! Update!
Post by: Thom89 on 01 March 2013, 22:31
As above, Samsung laptop, a few months old, and very little use so far, while on the net will start to lock up one minute, then be OK the next, or, just be a complete pain in the arse, and surfing is forced into giving up! If its of any relevance, Norton 360 is installed, Google Chrome is installed, but Internet Explorer probably gets used the most, problems occur whether IE or GC are used

Thanks
Thom

combination of norton, windows 8 and poorly written drivers.

get rid of norton. this in itself is a PITA to do. Factory reset i think

Get rid of windows 8. It's gash. Other than that, maybe try disabling your add ons individually to see if any are causing issues. Open ie in safe mode (no add ons) and work from there. If safe mode ie does not work, you know it's not an add on.

Thanks for the replies, I've uninstalled Google Chrome as a starting point, putting the machine pretty much back to its brand new spec! this seems to have solved the problem

Do you keep losing your internet connection when using the laptop wireless ?,if so change your power mangement settings to the best performance setting, if its set to a balanced setting it will keep dropping the wireless connection when the laptop is not plugged into the power.

Do you want to run this program?
Do you want to run this program in admin?
Are you sure you want to run this program now?

Norton of death you need 28Gigs of ram to make it silky smooth!
Try waterfox after firefox clashed with my add ons from various vendors waterfox is quick like the old days!

Did it come with any parental control BS? A customer dropped in a VAIO he bought last weekend and the PC World f**ktards had loaded it with parental control software because he bought it for his 20 year old daughter

Quick update, well this Notebook has turned out to be totally disappointing... keeps on freezing while online, touchpad operates as and when it feels like it, and Windows 8 is a shockingly poor system to operate... and Curry's are showing absolutely no interest in helping out, or exchanging the POS for anything else... so they can shove said Notebook up its own ass!

I bought this Notebook at Christmas for my wife, knowing that come spring, she would be setting up her own Wealth Management business, and thought this was a good starting point, after taking advice from various people saying that she would need something MS based... thats the last time I will ever listen to that argument!

So from Curry's we went straight to Apple, and bought a Macbook Pro, 16gb Ipad, Iphone 5 and £300s worth of extra Software to make it do what it needs to do, happy to say, that it all works as it should do, without stress, which is the way it should be... just perfect! backed up with the staff at the Apple shop in Leicester who are awesome!

And what to do with the old Notebook (less than 6 months old) a couple of suggestions have been made, throwing it out of one of the race cars window at 170mph on the runway at Bruntingthorpe, or loading it onto a clay pigeon thrower, and letting rip with a couple of shotguns, a friend has a Benelli pump that would prove very effective I'm sure. Your thoughts and ideas are most welcome
