can anyone please help!
I had a wet carpet under my drivers footwell so I took it up and removed the drain plugs and sealed them with some steel plates. I thought this would have solved te damp problem but overnight the footwell is wet again and the sound deadening at the back of the footwell behind the pedals is pretty wet..

where else is water likely to be coming from? I'm not sure if it's the damp sound deadening that's wetting the floor again or if it's something else, like sunroof drains? thanks

Hi m8 im having the same problem at the moment. Ive taken the sunroof out and cleaned the drains on each corner. My guess is prob the scuttle panel drains could be blocked. My panel doesnt even have a window seal its completely gone so i think this could be the cause to mine. Hope you get it sorted m8.

nice to know its not just me! :) what are scuttle panel drains? I've got a fan heater in there to dry it out completely, gonna see if it's gotten damp again tomorrow.

also worth checking the clutch pedal bung in the bulkhead.... these let loads of water in if there not fitted well

where abouts is this boney? found one more drain plug I hadn't sealed!
if only vag com worked with rust and leaks

remove the scuttle panel and follow the cable, it goes through the bulkhead at the worst angle!! if this seal isn't tight or has failed the water usually runs straight onto your leg's (or collects in the footwell if your more lucky)

cool right I've found the clutch cable.. no damp around it but it could have dried.. the only wet part now is right at the back bottom left of footwell, like it's coming from the far back right of the center console (still left of the clutch if that makes sense...)
my only other question is this.. the plastic trim that covers the cabin filter and ecu on the right is broken and the seal isn't perfect, could this be the cause? I'd ruled it out previously as it's on the other side of the car.
thanks for the help :)

Have a look at the pollen filter, if it's dry then it is unlikely to be your problem. If it's soaking wet then it could well be to blame.
Have you had a look at the bonnet release grommet? Mine had practically disintegrated on the MK4 causing a soaking wet drivers footwell.

cabin filter is dry ATM.
I don't think it's that cos the wet is on the other side of the footwell and it seems to be wet from the floor up rather than the carpet down.. I've hairdried it dry now, I'm gonna put it back together and say it was either damp from the floor bungs (the soundproofing seems to hold moisture for ages) or it was coming in by the passenger windscreen.
have to wait and see if anymore wetness comes in. thanks for the help tho bud

Door seals

Door seals
can't be that cos the wet was originating from the centre console side.
could this be it? is this supposed to look like this?

mine has a full boot on there... (looks sort of like a cv boot)
that could cause water ingress
