Just like in the title. Not just v power Tescos momentum aswell tho that is probably better than vpower on mpg, not on responsiveness
Yeh I can feel the cars more responsive and it's supposed to be run on something higher than 95, but I get better mpg on standard fuel than premium. It may well be down to my driving style but still. Anyone else noticed this?
Cars done 71k, the previous owner said he used standard fuel quite alot, I heard the engine has to get used to higher octane stuff, don't know if it's true, but I ran it on premium for about 3 months before trying standard fuel. Just wondering if anyone else.gets this. Also I would like to point out that bp fuel is dogsh!t :)

You really shouldn't be running it on 95ron for any period of time. It retards the timing somethig chronic. I heard the maps are adaptive and as the previous owner has continually run it on cr4p fuel it's now expecting that?? I can tell when I've used v power for increased responsiveness and increased mpg compared to Tesco. BP is only 97ron so not really a fair comparison.
I don't think the shell stuff is worth the extra cheddar though so tend to use Tesco. Maybe an update on the map would make you think differently?
Could anyone with VAGCOM confirm that the maps are adaptive over time and that the engine maps and DSG maps can be "reset" in terms of driving style? Read on another forum but I'm not convinced.

Cheers for the response, had no idea standard fuel was such a no no, I heard it produced more of a chemical with x in it,i prefer premium anyway, just when the money was a bit tighter I thought it would be ok to run it on it for the week. Well hopefully it'll get better over time. Im considering a remap at some point anyway. So if it doesnt get better that'll become more of a reality

You can run it on 95ron but shouldn't for long periods for the long term retarding. If you map it it will expect the 98ron and would say it would put a smile on your face. :smiley:

Only ever used V-Power in my ED30 & it still drinks it like an alcholic on diamond white. :grin:. Still if you want good mpg don't but a GTI.

true. Even motorways don't help that much

Always felt DSG needed a 7th gear for cruising which would have improved mpg numbers.

I have not long had my GTi and when i first got it i put tesco momentum in it for a couple of tanks and noticed no difference, I would be interested to know how long it would take to "re-adjust" to having decent fuel in?

I've not done the maths on it but when i have super in the tank the range reads another 40 miles to a full tank and the onboard mpg averages 30 to the gallon whereas on 95 it reads about 28mpg.
All these figures are much better than the smelly nissan, 12mpg! :shocked: so im not too bothered

95 gives me 330 miles to a tank, v-power (98) gives me 290-300 a tank, but the performance of shell over the others is much better, even the shell 95 i find better than Esso or BP 97 but i try not to do this too much, if i cant find a shell then i will only ever put the premium of any other station in. if im tight for cash (lets face it, everyone is now petrol is a million pounds a drop) i use shell 95. Tescos momentum seems ok, but i find it can be slowish to get going over shells v-power.

little update for you, my mpg seems to be getting better, might have been a coincidence but i took it for a proper blast down the er...autobahn? yeh the autobahn :tongue: and mpg seems to have improved, but, since the weathers been a bit nicer the flappy paddles have been in action alot more. so yeh, mpg has since dropped through no fault of the engine of course :)
