Hi everyone, new poster here.
Have had a problem with my golf for a while but have been struggling for cash so been unable to put it in for repair.
I'll give you an example of what happens.
Ill be in first gear, getting speed up & when i get into second, its like something is holding the car back. Restricting it if you will. Then all of a sudden, its like something clicks into place and I get the power I was after.
Also, when im in higher gears, its like my revs hit an invisible ceiling and wont go any further than like 40,000 revs.
The car goes through a lot of coolant too.
I know that my Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor is knackered - would that be the cause?

Hi and welcome to the forum :)
Well it sounds like your car "could" be struggling for pressure, the most common cause for coolent being used alot is ether a leak somewhere or the horrible head gasget :(
-
i'd be worried if you could hit 40,000 revs as well :lipsrsealed:
have you done any mods to the vehicle?
-
Hi folks, thanks for replies.
Didnt mean 40,000 revs - my bad!
No mods on the car at all.
Just really feels like something is holding it back when im accellerating. Can feel a jolt when it finally clicks into place - car takes off!
Just really not sure whats causing it
-
just an idea but check the air intake and fueling are both ok.
my old mk2 used to "lag" when i accelerated due to it taking in too much air, then all of a sudden it would catch up and accelerate.
if its taking in air after the sensor the engine would be allowing for it and wont put enough fuel in and the same with fuel, if theres not enough fuel or its takign a while for fuel to get to the engine it might casue this delay in acceleration.

The cars due a service - would cleaning filters, spark plugs etc maybe do the trick?
-
Definateyl!
A full service wouldnt hurt and if its due one it could well be causing hesitation!
