It's all over the net as of the last couple of hours, so I assume an embargo has just ended. Anyway, here's the Autocar version to start everyone off: http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/geneva-motor-show-2013/new-volkswagen-golf-gti-revealed

Standard models get 314mm ventilated front discs and 300mm rear unventilated discs. Performance Package versions feature ventilated disc brakes all round, 342mm at the front and 310mm at the rear.
What are the sizes of the R32/S3 brakes, exactly 342/310 or are these a new variant?

comes standard with xenon's and DRL and 18"s this time.
unladen weight 1351kg
so its not going to be lighter than the mk6 GTI. a standard mk6 weighs 1318kg
all that PR talk of it being around 100kg lighter than the mk6.
theyre full of sh!t
and the 'mechanical' LSD isn't a proper one but their haldex system which works off the ESP.
-
First picture I have seen of a three door GTI and really liking the look of that.
So that's the next car sorted, will just wait for a year or so to let it all settle
-
i love the way they keep comparing this to the megane cup - just cos they have given the option of bigger brakes and an extra 10bhp
VW havent got the balls to make a hardcore car like renault - the GTI will always be a halfway house, this time with an extra premium of £1000 for what most other hot hatched have as standard these days.

I've not read that anywhere yet, that those are standard?????
17's are supposed to be standard from most reports.

From the VW web site
18-inch ‘Austin’ alloys will be standard in the UK, special side sills, a rear diffuser and smoked LED rear lights, along with LED numberplate illumination. UK specification will also include bi-xenon headlights with LED daytime running lights.
Whatever Austin alloys are..

Links here, mentions bi-xenons, LED DRL's and 18" wheels as standard in UK. Believe it when you see it though.

Would be good standard spec, at last.
if you get parking sensors (as per standard GT) and the forementioned winter pack too, then its deceant valye for money against the competition.

Swastika Monzas...
-
I haven't read anything that says there will be any aesthetic (sp) differences with the performance pack fitted? I reckon if it comes with the "swastika monza's" the aero parts on the rear window and the wing badges i'll probably go for the standard car.

just what I was thinking.
The look of the mk7 is growing on me except the front of the bonnet. It still looks like its been in a nose divefront end crash and bent the bonnet or had a chav maxpower nova/fiesta beak body mod.
-
Seems to be a few buttons missing off the steering wheel?

That gloss inlay is gonna be a pain in the ass to keep clean!
-
Yes the Mk7 is growing on me now at last, must say the vortex vid on youtube showing the white concept helps..

Looking at the pictures from the Paris motor show it's more loke the trim thats in the 35 than gloss which looks quite cool tbh. I think the above pic is some kind of photoshop, as the door arm rest looks like plastic as well which i doubt will be the case?

The "third eye" is on the GTI at the Geneva motor show at the end of this video:
http://youtu.be/2Y_pP9Jpsdc
But not all of them so fingers crossed it's an option.
Better video tbh:

Sounds as if that 3rd eye is here to stay as its the radar for the collision system...
Unless the collision system is a option?
-
I think the collision system is in the windscreen behind the rear view mirror, that sensor is for the adaptive cruise, it's not on all of them at the show.
Edit: scratch that! It's the lane assist behind the mirror, it is the collision system in the bumper. :embarrassed:
Tbh, the more i look at it the less offensive i find it, at least it's not shiny and round.

Yep I think your end up for getting about it after a little while....
-
From the specs for UK I have read we will get Xennons and Composition Media.
I assume then, that the GTi won't get the collision system which is standard on the GT as the GTi gets the above additionals over the GT?
Personally I think it looks crap, and is just a gimmick as from what I understand it only works with speeds below 19mph?
Dave
-
How odd, mines only an SE 150 and the collision prevention is standard on that. Mine also has the city safety feature and adaptive cruise control which can control the cars speed and distance between 0-99mph with the aid of the DSG box..
With regards to the system not working over 19mph. I'm not sure that's strictly true, the car will break automatically at far higher speeds but complete stops I believe is from 30mph or less. There could however be differences between manual and DSG due to the fact that it can control the clutch with the latter.
