Title: Xenons on the MK7
Post by: mike. on 25 February 2013, 17:10
My Mum's car has just arrived at the dealers, so called in for a quick look.

On thing I noticed was the difference in the Xenons.

On all the marketing shots I have seen, the Xenons had a halo of light around them for the daytime running lights.

On the Xenons fitted to her car the DRL is still a standard bulb in the inside of the light unit just like the MK6, with a chrome surround around the xenon light unit.

If it was my car I would not be happy but I'm sure my mum will never notice..

Thanks Carl, just found it and phoned the dealer, he is to get back to me.
He had a quick word with VW and looks like a refund on the price of lights but is to confirm this.

It now states on the new price list that the Xenons do not include led DRLs
I notice the new Golf brochure on the website is no longer available for download but the new price list is.

From what I have read on the German forums the Highline which is equivalent to the GT here in UK, comes with the basic Xenons as standard.

Xenon main beam, but no LED for DRL.

There is an option for the LED DRL.

Hoping the GTi and GTD have full LED / Xenon as standard, but doubt they will!

They've obviously dropped a clanger with this one! I suspect they'll be a few rope that fall foul of this?

Following on from what HA54SYM said I checked ETKA, as it has just updated, and it lists three Xenon headlights

Headlights for gas discharge lamp  £389 each.
Headlights for curve light and LED DRL £478 each.
Gas Discharge headlight with dynamic main beam control and LED DRL  £641 each.

So looks like the cheapest option has been fitted to my Mum's car.

Are they bi-xenons, or just dip beam then?

They are Bi-Xenon, they just don't have the LED DRL.

Interesting, anything else new uploaded to ETKA, maybe GTi bits?

Its bad with your mum's mk7 order though, I would do what the guy on mkiv's did and kick up a fuss with dealer.

It also does not look good for the GTi, as they may well have standard Halogen (Non Xenon at all) lamps with the red trim in also, if they have this many options on the lights already.

Result for my mum when she picked the car up, VW refunded the price of the Xenons.

Also noticed the mirrors automatically fold when you lock the car, this can be turned off in the setup on the radio along with about 50 other things

Yeah read that they had finally added this feature, much better than fidderling with a knob...

Glad your mum got the refund.

The mirror action is much better
