Title: 3" turbo back exhaust
Post by: Gary022 on 24 February 2013, 23:50
So after it it sitting on my garage floor for 6 months I finally got round to fitting my ebay special exhaust.

The problems I encountered while doing so where:

Turbo down pipe gasket holes needed to be drilled out for it to sit flush

Front lambada hole needed to be plugged and a new nut welded on the other side as the sensor wouldn't fit on its original position.

Centre section needed extended

New sensors were bought as the old ones threaded when removing ( unlucky I guess )

New clamps were purchased as the ones supplied were as useful as a chocolate fire guard ( knew this before )

Mounting rod on the back box that goes over the rear beam needed grounded off and welded on lower down to allow enough clearance over the beam.

Despite all this the beast is on and sounds pretty sick.

Only slight issues I have now is despite raising the exhaust over the rear beam it still just rattled when driving a slow speed low revs. To help this I've secured a thick piece of rubber onto the beam and this has almost silenced it , it now only vibrates rather than rattle. Read on a post on here that apparently heat wrap helps cure this so I've bought some of that to see if that can cure it. The heat shielding has a mini rattle somewhere aswell so when I'm under ill hunt and cure that aswell.

All in all I'm pleased with the results but recommend anyone attempting this job to go into it with an open mind .. And a welder.

The source of my heatshield rattle is the hangers near where the cat should be, they are slightly too long so touch the heatshield slightly

Could be the same here , I'll have a look this weekend when I wrap the part going over the rear beam and Stick the cover over the lambadas which I forgot to do.

Boo engine management light came on this morning lol. I'm guessing this can be switched/mapped off when I get a remap on the car?

What engine code have you got?

I wouldn't be surprised if it's 16804.

It will definaetly be 02 sensor related because it won't be sensing a change in temperature or flow between before and after cat as both sensors are before. Won't cause me any damage driving like I am tho? It's not entering limp mode or anything. Planning on getting a map in summer so surely be able to make the sensor think its doin the right thing

Sounds like you've had a right game mate mine isn't that bad other than a heat shield rattle in the middle which could be what u said with the hangers but will get the garage to sort that when it goes in next week for all its work :)

I was pretty sure it wouldn't. Next step is wether to pack my bags and start the 8 and a half hour drive to r tech or take it to a boy an hour away who has a rolling road and remaps cars. Heard good things about him cause he did my mates Nissan 200sx well at a good price. Hopefully he can map me up to 190-210 area and switch off the light. If not i better fill the golf up with fuel and hit the motorway  :undecided:

See if anyone has listed him in the mapping section, everyone on here raves about r tech but there are other good tuners around, all depends on spec obviously, anything a bit quirky you want a specialist tuner, but for stage 1 you have a massive choice
