My VR6 converted to a 20vt by previous owner. Well since owning her I thought she did not feel right, not like my VR6 in my av' pic. I did the usual kick on all 4 tyres and all seemed good and looked good, no signs of looking flat. Today I decided just to check what pressure they were running at expecting to see 32-34psi due to being 17's. Front drivers was 22psi, rear drivers side 18psi, front passenger side 32 psi, rear passenger side 17psi.......So now all at 33psi, what a difference, cant believe I did not check this earlier
Normally it is visible or to touch, all tyres felt rock solid? Oh well, all done and sorted now but thought I had to tell! MPG and speed should be up a bit now

Tyre pressures, fluid level check and a quick visual inspection is something I do weekly religiously.

Same here, but more because I'm paranoid that something's wrong

Christ with it being so cold I check mine once a month.
I have very good quality stainless steel valves, that don't leak as much. But being cold and air smaller it can escape easier.
-
I normally do mine every 14 days! Never knew how bad low pressure tyres and out of sync' regarding pressures it would have on the car......Shocking
-
I would say that 32 is too high!
I have my fronts at 30 and rears at 28

Thanks Len. Just got in after reading this and my fronts are 30 and rears 28

ive got 205/50/R15 and i've always had 38 in mine all way round.

In winter when roads are cold you need higher pressure to get heat in the tyre faster. I run 36 front 32 rear.
Summer I run 32 front 28 rear. Summer you get more heat in them and the air pressure will rise 2/4 pounds.

Lol, It is stiff

How long you had your tyres TWEED?
I just wonder because at that pressure you are probably wearing out the centre of the tyre before the edges. Also how long have you had the car and what mileage?

I've had mk3 golfs now for 4 years 16v gti, 8v gti and a vr6.
I also have to adjust front camber to its maximum negative camber, otherwise I get outside tyre wear. I thought it was tracking but had that checked and all good.
My tyre wear even and flat. Toyo t1r didn't last long on the 16v even with tyre pressures at 27psi. They grained a lot and I cooked them. Might due to heat build up due to friction in the soft tyre wall.
I run yoko paradas on my vr6 and they are a lot better. Haven't cooked them yet and still all very even tyre wear.
I tell you what Len, shall I take a picture for you? Would that then stop you arguing with me on every thread I don't agree with you on?

I mean come on! I run 32 and 28
Len has 30 and 28
Len is saying my pressures are to high and I'm wearing out my tyres and also needs to know how long I've had my car and the mileage. Really?? Why do you need to know that?
Len you do know the standard tyre garage pressure is 32psi right?
-
Tweed, have you seen Len's car? It doesn't matter what he says because his car is sh!t.

He clearly doesn't know much too.
In summer your tyres get hot! The air pressure will rise a lot!
But you hardly get them warm in winter so raising your pressure is a must.
Why do you think you only put air in cold tyres and not hot tyres?
-
I think you'll find a 16v or vr6 needs quite high pressures especially if running 195/50's. look in the petrol flap. I run 38psi front 35 rear on 195/45's. 205/50's run 32 & 30. Lower profile usually run at at higher pressure and its to do with load rating of the tyre. And considering how heavy the front of the mk3 is with an ankor is or a 16v with AC on it is. It makes sense.
Those are manufactures recommended pressures. Been over this many times before. And people will still say its too high.
And no, the centre of the tyre doesn't wear.
-
Tweed you did not answer my question.
Running higher than necessary tyre pressures will wear out the centre of the tyres.
But then you dont seem to keep any car long enough to find this out!
So why are you persistantly giving out bad advice?
Do you work in a tyre fitters by any chance?

Hahahaha ok Len if saying 36psi in front tyres in winter months is bad advise and 32 in hot months is bad advise then I sussgest you have a little research and read on vw recommended tyre pressures.
I had a 16v for 18 months and I still own my vr6 and 8v gti.
I'm not replying to your pathetic pretty comments no more.

Funniest thing is there's two people on here running 38psi but Len picks on my for 32psi
Grow up old man or keep quite!
