What HU is it mate?  Is it running off the standard wiring loom or has it been cut into at any time, as in electrical tape, connector blocks etc?

Check it has 12v both permanent and ignition.

I have a feeling the ignition live has failed.

One way to get it working is by giving it a direct feed from the battery mate with an in line blade fuse holder.

So.......

Use the earth wire from your loom and the above direct to your HU power wire.  I always like to solder and wires then heat wrap them so nice and secure. Also the fuse used in the Ebay ad' is a 30, I would use a 20.

Random one, and might help you might not. But my old head unit used to do the same, it was a blue wire on the back onit that had a 'mute' label onit, that used to short again the unit and turn off the hu. Put some tape onit and never happened again. Jus sayin

Could be dodgy ignition switch ?

Looks that way, I've bypassed the ignition switch and it now works.....just gotta ding out why now!
