As above my rear driver side window has dropped. I can hear the motor, but its not bringing the window up?, ive not opened it yet.
What could be wrong?

take off the door card and have a look. most likely it's a plastic clip that's broken, should be a cheap fix if so. could be a broken cable also. only way to find out is to have a look and see what's broken

I'm going to have a look at it tomorow, I've parked it up in me garage for the night. One question is are the MK3 mechanism like the MK4's. Me brother MK4 window clip brown and eventually the cable chewed itself up. Coz he kept on messing about with the window switch lol, Hope I ain't done the same to this

even so you can get a new cable for about 12.50 and fit it to the existing mech. a little fiddly but ok to do
-
Okay if that is the case. I'll just get a new mechanism off eBay. So take old one out and replace it with new one. Save time doing the fiddly bit
if I'm right the MK3's are not held using rivets are they?

Correct. 20 min job to swap it all. If that.
-
such an easy job if you just replace mech
-
Sweet. I'll take it apart and see what's the crack with it. Will let you know how I get on. :smug:
one last question?, if I only need the clip?, where can I buy them from?

No worries

I've had a look.
The White clip that acts as a slider is broken. I've managed to locate another new mechanism. But the problem I have now is removing the motor as it has cables attatched. Any help on this?
Thanks

I would just replace the lot, cables and all. Much easier.

25 quid, can't go wrong.

If I can get another clip. That would be alot easy to just change. But I doubt it if I can get that seperate tbh.

Mine is a 5 door and it's the rear driver side that's packed in.

try the scrapyard.
if you need to take the cable out I don't think you need to take off the motor, you should be able to pull up the tension and take it off the runner. if you need to take off the motor it's the 5 torx screws you need to undo. as vdubninja says it's easier to get a full mech tho but it's doable if you want to do it cheaper. maybe try and get a mech from a scrappy bud?
-
It's ok vdubninja, we all make mistakes.
I've rang a mate, he's got some doors from a MK3 at his unit, so I'll try him.
Fingers crossed
