Just come on in the last few days, while reversing and when the clutch is down theres a strange noise comming from the engine. The noise sounds like a plastic guard rubbing on something, like the noise when you were a kid and put football cards with a peg in your bike wheel to make a motorbike sound (or was that just me) I'v had a quick look but cant see anthing anyone heard of this before? Ps the car still drives ok
-
does it go at the same speed of the car? eg when fast the sounds faster. it sounds like ur gear box is on the way out but don't worry ull have a lot of life left in it yet just more annoying than anything. you could replace the gear box oil and check for ant metal shaving etc.
-
Don't really notice it at faster speeds, the gear box seems really good no crunching smooth gear changes. It normally makes the noise more when turning left?
-
Clicking cv joint ,I went through a few when I had a mk2 way back
-
Anyway of checking this?
-
You could check the boot to see if its lost its grease,or spin the wheel forwards and backwards whilst jacked up with right lock then left lock this may show if faulty
-
If it has gone are they easy to change?
-
Yes quite easy to change iirc once you get the shaft out of the hub then the end will just knock off .
-
I have a donor engine with prop shafts still on could practice on them I suppose!

Had a good look under the car and found the noise, it was wheel arch cover trim side tray that was touching the bottom wheel on the pully. Took the tray off and hey presto no more noise, I love getting lucky sometimes!!!
