Title: hood insulator - anyone knows its purpose??

has anybody removed the front hood insulator?  anyone knows whether that serves any precautionary measure for fire / does it protect hood from heat /  or is it just to curb sound?

Do you mean the fury lining under the bonnet? I think it probably serves both the purposes above?

With the Top Gear episode in Botswana in mind, i.e. when a specific area of JC's Alfa bonnet caught the sun (like a magnifying glass would do) due to the battery terminals, I would also suggest the above for protection reasons  :nerd:

I would suggest its primarily to cut engine noise.
