Title: Loud ticking/squeaking noise.
Post by: Scott-R on 22 February 2013, 20:23
Theres a ticking/ squeaking noise coming from my engine bay between the scoosh filler and the power steering on the left it could be something to do with fueling.. is that the fuel filter?

No noise on idle only when picking up speed.

Any help would be great thanks.

I think you're on about your charcoal canister mate. Mine ticks, cant really find a definitive answer weather its supposed to do it an idle. If it really bothers you you could do a charcoal canister delete.

After some googling, it's the carbon canister that's making the noise anyone had this before?

Should I replace it or clean it?

Can I run it if its making these noises?

link for the delete http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=222678.0

As far as I know it releases fuel vapor from the tank into the inlet system. The only issue I can figure out is that it's putting un-metered air and fuel vapour into the intake. I'll be doing this delete on mine soon!

And yeah my golf runs fine!

The ticking is normal, it's a PCV valve opening and closing to allow the gas flow through the canister. Unless it becomes stupidly loud then it shouldn't be a problem.
