hi, about a month ago my car died on me well it was only a saxo which was meant to be a stop gap for a a while till i got my bike sorted but neith happened and one day driving home from work the clutch gave up on it, so that was the end of the vtr. Then came the golf now a 5 door mk 3 gti in black with 88k and full vw service history all completly standard for now, try and get it looking a bit better first as got smashed fog light amd drivers door card has gone funny, parcel shelf has twisted, and sure a few other bits to do. Hopefully you lot will be as friendly and helpfull as all other forums i belonged to over the years from, astra-sport.co.uk, stoc.co.uk, saxperience.co.uk.

got a bit of rust on skirt but i think it is just a case of replaceing skirt and all fine. drivers air vent broken, crack in headlight and smashed fog light, twisted rear shelf. but other than that its about it. does anyone know when the cam belt should be changed and should i do the water pump too?

I do mine every 40k. But I am obsessive about it. And yes, always do the water pump. I think officially its more like every 50k, however. Don't quote me.

If you're not mechanically minded, it's not worth the risk. If you mess up, bye bye engine. Similarly, if the belt snaps or the tensioner goes.. Bye bye engine. No warning signs either.
If you're not sure, get it changed pal.
-
that may be the way forward to get changed but going to look back in service history that came with it to see if it has been done.
-
Good stuff. Remember that even if its only done 20k over 4 yrs it will still need doing.

didn`t know that i thought it was just miles it went on, cheers
