My old escort turbo used to sound immense. I brought it like that though. Cant beat the sound of a turho spinning up. How do i do this on my golf?
-
dv is what gives the "chattering" as you say when you come off the accelorator, panel filter/CAI will make it a little louder and proberbly make the turbo spool sound louder, exhaust normally helps i guess cause i can hear the turbo spool through mine a little
-
i was told that better turbo intake pipe and then induction kit and you'll hear it.
i just have a induction kit on my and i can hear it going :P nowhere near as loud as the Focus ST's was though
-
I can hear mine spool up quite a bit. Full Milltek Non res, Forge turbo intake pipe, .:R32 DSG intake mod and a performance panel filter are probably contributing to that. I have a Forge 007P DV fitted so I dont get flutter, just a discrete "tssh".
-
A simple cone filter will release loads of turbo spool and some dump valve woosh but you won't get any chatter out of a 1.8t unless you revove the dv completely which isn't a good thing to do on these engines. If your getting chatter then in isn't functioning correctly.

was gonna say turbo chatter is bad. is turbo chatter not the turbo stalling?
-
So just an induction kit needed then? Do u need any hoses or anything or does it just come with the kit?
-
Did you get it running right
-
Being sorted now. Friend thinks it could be the oil pump though

its compressor surge slowing the turbo down. i dont think it ever stalls completly your never gonna make a golf sound like a supra skyline evo etc no matter how much you bolt on to it..

My mates ibiza cupra sounded lovely..arent they the same engine?
-
dont know but ive read loads of times that if you put on a cone filter (loudest) you will defintly loose performance compared to the standard aitbox
-
I been in a golf with a bmc cda and there was no turbo spool. just a deep growl followed by the forge that sounds like air brakes on a bus/ lorry but deeper
-
My golf does have a lovely spool and a fantastic dump the setup I'm using is a custom made 80mm induction with a 70mm reducer from RAMAIR then I have a forge 007P and I hear a lovely spool and a nice "tsssssh" however I think the fact that my turbo is a KO3s has a factor to this.
-
however I think the fact that my turbo is a KO3s has a factor to this.
Whats the difference?

1is better than the other

How? Whats difrerent? Cus im guessing theyre the same size..
-
Run an induction kit that will make a big difference.

the ko3s is bigger its the one you get on the 180bhp golfs us 150bhp boys have ko3
-
When i did my supra mods metal hard pipes increased the spool noise and a large atmosheric dump valve.
Bigger exhaust and k&n filter.
Hears a pic of my supra engine bay.

No the 150bhp golf's have K03s too. K03s only has a slightly bigger compressor wheel and stronger actuator, nothing else. It's physically the same size

For a cheap mod I got a spare air box, and basically chopped off the bottom part around the inner wing at battery. PiperX panel filter.
Logged through VCDS it pulled an extra 8g/s and no increase in heat.
Sounds great now. Loads is spool and dump noise.
I also think that the std intake is too restrictive. Even with the DSG mod it's pulling air through an awkward route. So I use it more as a cold air feed.

That sounds a plan actually. So just whip the airbox off and chop a big hole in he bottom?

But you still need to spend £40 odd on a decent panel filter, have a search on here for what others have done, a cone on the end of the MAF will give you the noise you want, but you'll need to shield it from the heat of the engine and provide a cold air feed to it
