Title: No time - No More Money To Waste...
Post by: Itteh on 20 February 2013, 21:22
Right, after the problems and money and third degree lectures iv heard from ma parents and my older brother. Iv parked the car up ...... now im driving my fathers spare car. Which hopefully wont stress me the way the golf has.

How much will i make if i strip it to its bal*s and sell the parts. It passed mot around a month ago, or i could get rid as a whole. im an honest lad who dosent want to get cursed by someone who buys the car thinking its running spot on. I bought it in march 2011 when i was 18 and i been driving it since. Its hard for me to say this but i think i will have to part from my car. Otherwise its going to be parked up in my garden for another 10 months or so.

My main plan of buying it was to keep it for a couple of years, but it looks like the trip abroad for a few months has cost me more than i imagined, i came back to my car thinking it would be alright, but nop. I dont have no more money and time to throw on it.

Appreciate if you lads can help give me a price range for breaking ?

Cheers

Stop being a tit and just sort it out. If my parents gave me lectures on my car I'd tell them to do one.

What is your car doing?, what parts have you replaced so far?,

I had some running issues with mine, took me a good few months to put right, and it's fixed now.

And your right, some mechanics from dews are cowboys.

Who do you take your car to btw?, I'm sure it'll be an easy fix.

Lost count of the amount of cars i've seen where the owner is happy to throw money at 'bling' but can't or won't take care of the basics...

What ever the wheels are then about £400

I would sell it as a whole mate.

This. What makes your mechanics think that the engine is on its way out? What is the car doing that is wrong, and what have you done to try and fix it so far?

an engine from a breaker is only £100........ although looking at the posts you've made it sounds like it's not terminal (more bolt on parts or electrical issues)

Reading back your previous posts, You mention that the engine keeps switching off?

Right i had this same problem with mine, It was the crank shaft sensor.

I cleaned all the earths, But did not make a difference. apart from my lights getting brighter.
I went through 3 different coil packs, But problem was still there.
I did not change the relays, But started car from stone cold and touched relays after 10 - 15 mins of driving, and they were hot enough to touch, So it was not the relays too.
I changed the distributor car & rotor arm, that did not help aswell.
I didn't clean the throttle body, so i knew the problem wasn't there.
I checked all the bretaher pipes, and they were all bang on.

Last thing to check was before it went to the scrappy was.... CRANK SHAFT SENSOR. and it turned out to be that. The wires were completely detoriated.

So i replaced that, with a new part from GSF and i've done over 3000 miles since. NOT GAVE ME A PROBLEM SO FAR. Touch Wood.

My car kept on turning off at traffic lights and would not start until left for abit. and sometimes i could be driving it all day and when coming to switching it off, it would not start up.

Question for you Itteh?, When your car turns off, Does the oil light flash? and do the revs go all over the place?

Also your car giving you dirty mileage, I would put that down to, Breather Pipes, Oil Service and possibly get a new ECU Temp sensor.

and as it stands about that little sensor, I would say that its got nothing to with the car cutting out on you. Like you say its been like that since last year, but never gave you a problem. However it will play a little part in giving you dirty mileage, But not alot.

Its an easy fix, I'll tell you that...

But his parents and brother know more about his car than we do, so he's not listening!

Just to chirp in .If anyone saw a pic of ltteh's induction kit they could see the last owner disconnected the air intake temperature sensor and fitted some little effing filter in place. He told me he found the cable tucked under the arch,so first thing i would suggest is fitting a new sensor and plug it back into the shoulder of the air filter.By taking it to a numpty non VW mechanic what do you expect them to say  :lipsrsealed:

got a couple off AGG engines here; both around 100k; I was going to strip them and weigh them in; £30 to you if you wanna collect one? And in answer to your original question I can break a standard 8v Golf GTI for around 700/800

it depends what he wants from car ownership. everyone is different.. some like it for the learning process, some like it for the cars and some just like having a nice car to drive. I think the op just wants a nice looking reliable golf to drive and enjoy, and not worry about it

Then I'm afraid a MK3 isn't the way forward. As much as I love mine, in forever fixing her.
