1999 Golf GT Tdi
Engine - AHF

Sorry been searching and just need to clarify if a Timing Belt Repair Kit is sensible?  I have searched several posts and it seems timing can vary.  I had it done at 57k in 2007.  Only 90k on clock but from what I have read it could be overdue e.g. 4 years no matter what the mileage is.

 By the way genuine VW parts used.

Yea as a rule you should be having the timing belt changed every 4 years including the tensioners and I would do the water pump whilst your at it :)

are you doing it yourself?
if so youll want the 3 bolts that attach to the diesel pump and the cam sprocket bolt too aswell as the belt kit and waterpump.
once its all done youll probably have trouble starting it, as the timing is hard to get spot on without getting the timing cloud checked on vag com. its any easy enough job though, hardest bit is removing the engine mount bracket away from between the engine and chassis leg

Thanks for your help.  May take to garage as I could do it myslef but have not got VAG com.

its easy enough to be honest, also once its done im sure therll be someone willing to plot the timing. that said if you had a garage do it if you do have the starting issue you can take it back and say 'fix it'
something to bear in mind though if you go the garage route, a vw dealer charges about £330 to do this and they will check and slighty adjust pump timings to its optimum. its something to weigh up when having quotes. a DIY job will probably be about £180 including waterpump.
