I'm going to look at a Seat Leon 1.8 turbo cupra today, they want £2,500 for it but it has 110,000 miles on the clock. The listing does say "12 MONTHS MOT ON PURCHASE!! ONLY 1 FORMER KEEPER!! SERVICE HISTORY!! LOTS OF SERVICE BILLS!! TOTALLY HPI CLEAR!! PARTS & LABOUR WARRANTY INCLUDED!!" and it does appear to be in good shape! I'm just put off by the mileage really :undecided:
What are these like on fuel anyone know or own one? It's the 180bhp one but I drive from Nottingham to Derby three times a week and don't want it to cost me an absolute bomb really! Upgrading from a 1.6 mk4 Golf :cool:

That's what I've always thought, I think I'm just getting a tad impatient because my car is broken! :rolleyes: Doesn't always start and it's embarrassing at petrol stations :grin:

I don't tend to worry about the miles personally as I rarely ever sell my cars just use then til they are worthless.
I bought my '02 mk4 golf pd150 for £2000 with 163k on it. I runs really well in all conditions. I had to replace the DMF and therefore the clutch on 175k, but I was told when I bought it it had never had a clutch done. In fairness there was loads left on it, but the DMF was rattling and the last DMF that failed cost me a gearbox.

It would depend on the history that comes with the car, if it is clear that the car has been maintained well then it wouldn't put me off. The parts & labour warranty probably won't be worth the paper it's written on though :wink:
In terms of petrol consumption it depends on how you drive, I'd expect to see around 35mpg on the motorway.
Also £2500 is strong money for a Cupra :undecided:

The 1.8t will do lots of miles if looked after, my Octavia vRs was on 120k when I sold it and still going strong even with a remap.
Main thing is make sure the cam belt / water pump have been replaced also check and see if it has the oil pump pick up pipe replaced, if not then get it replaced asap.
Depends on the year but £2500 is strong money, insurance, running costs and tax have seen values drop.

If there's a good service history and plenty of evidence of money spent then i don't see a problem, can be a useful bargaining tool too..

As said, the milage is no problem depending on the history. Just as a low milage is no good with bad history.
I prefer the idea of a higher mileage car with more motorway miles from longer trips, and serviced on time, to say a lower milage car from a lady owner doing only town driving. Short trips on cold engine etc. Especially as the higher miles offers potential for a lower buying price.
So you have to judge as best you can on an individual cars merits. Is it due a 'big' service with potential for some of the more expensive items needing replaced, is it nice to drive, tight and smooth or not so???
Gotta be worth a test drive if your interested

I got my car at 118k (1.8t 150bhp) i did drive into it abit as it had no history however it was marked up at £1900 and that was april last year. But the dealer was offering me £1300 for my focus which trust me it wasnt worth it.
I drove the car and it seemed sounds apart from the no history the car was only costing me £600 but i did get the dealer to agree to change the cambelt and water pump for an extra £100 which i felt was a great deal. However my lesson was learned a few months afterwards when things needed replacing. I womt go into it but that car has cost me a good £2k+ in replacements and repairs.
Now however shes on 121k and shes running beautiful imho the 1.8t is a solid engine and very moddable as long as its looked after which unforunitly that owners before me didnt i just recently changed the oil pickup pipe which was a good call because my old one was half blocked.
I suppose what i an trying to tell you is be very careful and do not rush into it. Goodluck pal :)

dont pay 2500 for a cupra when you could pick a cupra r up for not much more,although after having both none of them would be in my short list as they are not great :smiley:

Thanks for all the great advice as always guys! As for going for a Cupra R instead, the jump to 225bhp puts the insurance just out of teach and what's the point when I can achieve that with a little map in the future when funds permit :)

Buy a mk4 turbo way better than any Cupra for build quality :smiley: an 2500 will get you a 180bhp with 6speed box

I'd actually much prefer a mk4 they seem to have a much nicer interior too :) but insurance prices are much more on a mk4 compared to the Leon weirdly

Always thought the Cupra was 'trying too hard' myself....mk4 Turbo is better value and more discreet..

My Golf was 98500 - now 148k
The Passat 112000 - now 134k

My Audi A4 1.8T as 143k yes its been fully serviced with new big ends , main bearing,new turbo , cam belt twice and it drives like new nice and tight just like my women lol...

The best car i owned was bought at 213,000 miles. Yes it was petrol. It gave 3 years of reliable service. Good old mk2 GTi 8v. Sold it at 248,000 miles and it was just as reliable as the day i bought it. It's probably still around somewhere!
Dont be worried about mileage. Use it as leverage to get more discount!
