I've asked the question in, wait for it, the 'audio' section, but clearly people don't bother to frequent that part of the forum :lipsrsealed:
How would I go about retrieving the code from a second hand unit (where the code is unknown)?
Is it a trip to the dealers job?
Note to moderator: please don't banish this to the audio section, it'll be lost forever with no chance of a response!!

A dealer will get you the code (At a price ofcourse) if you tell them the serial number on the unit :)
9 out of 10 volkswagens that I've done at work have never needed the code though
Hope that helps :)

before you go spending money on the code, try plugging it in, i unpluged my old standard head unit and had after market one in, put in standard one again and left it pluged in after about 30 seconds the enter code screen disappeared and the normal screen came up and all was fine :)

Does the Ecu not store the code :undecided:

im not sure it might do, but i know when i plugged mine back in, it said insert code for like 30 seconds and then went off, got the advice of doing what i said above off a few lads off ukmkivs.
so could be that its only for cars with the head unit they came with. only one way to find out though, and dont hurt to plug it in and see
